Watkins Holds the Advantage - But Calvert-Lewin Might Still Make the International Squad

A solitary goal in his first ten Premier League appearances this season had numerous wondering whether Dominic Calvert-Lewin's best days were behind him.

However, a just four weeks on, he stands as the hottest attacker in England following bagging 7 goals in six consecutive games.

His newest goal, in a tie against Sunderland, brought his tally to eight, establishing him as the leading English goalscorer in the Premier League this term.

A Stunning Resurgence

The 28-year-old moved to Leeds United on a free transfer in the summer, following a nine-year spell with Everton that was marred by fitness issues in its final stages.

But, the data supporting his comeback in Daniel Farke's new fast-breaking 3-5-2 system are extremely remarkable.

His six-match scoring run puts him in elite company as only the 11th English player to score in six or more straight Premier League matches.

To put that into perspective, even England captain Harry Kane was unable to produce a run of this length - his best is two individual five-match streaks.

And the only English striker to better Calvert-Lewin in recent years is Jamie Vardy, who produced an eight-game scoring spree for Leicester City in 2019.

What's Behind the Scoring Form?

What has made Calvert-Lewin so hard to stop in this period? A latest opponent's manager described it perfectly.

"He has the perfect timing," the manager said. "He's intelligent and a really good striker and he found the timing to arrive just on time."
